September 2, 1942 - March 10, 2024

A consummate storyteller and chatty neighbor, William “Bill” McDivitt of Loveland, CO, completed his baptismal journey on March 10, 2024, at the age of 81.

Bill was born in Alamosa, CO, on September 2, 1942, to William “Bill” McDivitt, Jr., and Mabel Lucille (nee Miles) McDivitt. The child of educators, Bill was a lifelong learner whose curiosity knew no bounds. The oldest of four children, he was a born leader, spending his working years as a city manager, salesman, and manager with State Farm Insurance.

Never a man to waste time, Bill met Carol Anne (nee Schuricht) and married her as soon as humanly possible, on January 3, 1971, in Englewood, CO. They enjoyed over 53 years of marriage, raising two boys, William “Billy” Lyle McDivitt III and Jay Michael (Ann Williams) McDivitt. Bill and Carol lived in Ohio and Connecticut before settling back in Colorado for good. Bill lived with Carol in Loveland for over 40 years, and they traveled the world together as much as they could.

Bill was a doting and involved grandfather, first to Matthew William Hise, and later to Lydia Frances McDivitt Williams and Simon Charles McDivitt Williams. He was a beloved father-in-law to Ann. He was known for ridiculous stories, bizarre vocabulary, silly games, and tons of (mostly helpful) advice. Despite his always busy schedule, his children and grandchildren could always count on him attending every sporting event, choir concert, awards ceremony, or other milestone celebration as he possibly could.

Bill was fiercely committed to family and did his best to stay connected to his siblings and their families, Michael “Mike” Wayne (Karen) McDivitt, Evelyn Kay McDivitt, and Patrick “Pat” James (Suzy) McDivitt. At every family gathering, Bill spent hours in the kitchen, meticulously washing dishes and chatting with anyone within earshot. He was an avid reader, a devoted Broncos fan, and an obsessive consumer of current events and political commentary. He was also a deeply committed churchgoer, serving in countless ways over the years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mabel, and numerous aunts and uncles and other family members. He is survived by his siblings Mike (Karen), Kay, and Pat (Suzy); his wife, Carol; his children, Billy and Jay (Ann Williams); his grandchildren, Matthew, Lydia, and Simon; sisters-in-law Linda (Robert) Henry and Tammy (Bill) Riedel; cousins, nephews, and nieces; and countless friends.

A funeral service with Holy Communion will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2919 North Wilson Avenue, Loveland, CO 80538. He will be laid to rest immediately following worship in the on-site columbarium. A light luncheon will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory to King of Glory Lutheran Church (https://secure.myvanco.com/L-Z45R/campaign/C-14PCR) or Dementia Together (https://secure.givelively.org/donate/dementia-friendly-communities-of-northern-colorado/bill-mcdivitt-memorial) are appreciated.
