At least one officer from the Longmont Police Department fired a shot at a domestic violence suspect around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of Coffman Street to respond to a domestic violence call. Shortly after arrival, officers came into contact with the male suspect. The police report the man was "uncooperative with police and armed with a large knife."

The police told the man to drop the knife several times but he refused. The officers decided to use less lethal force multiple times, however, it was ineffective, the police report.

The man ran toward an occupied residence and two officers tried to use lethal force to stop him from entering the property. The Longmont Police Department stated that at least one officer discharged their weapon during the pursuit.

The man still refused to comply with the officers' commands. Additional officers on the scene used less lethal force until the man dropped his weapon.

The suspect was given medical aid and transported to a local hospital. His current medical status is unknown.

The victim in the situation did not report any serious injuries.

The officers who attempted to use lethal force were placed on paid administrative leave, per the policy of the department until an investigation by the Critical Incident Team for the 20th Judicial District is completed.
