A Longmont Police officer shot a man who was a suspect in an armed robbery on Monday night.

The Longmont Police received a call around 9:51 p.m. Monday concerning an armed robbery at a Circle K located at 605 S. Emery.

Longmont Police found the described vehicle on South Martin Street, just south of Hwy 119. The vehicle fled east on Hwy 119 toward Weld County Road 7 ½. The police attempted to stop the car before it reached the intersection by deflating its tires.

Officers then performed a TVI, or tactical vehicle intervention, maneuver which forced the suspect’s vehicle off the road.

A man exited the car with a firearm and the Longmont officer fired and struck the suspect. The man was transported to a Northern Colorado emergency room. The man is expected to survive, according to police.

Two other people were in the car at the time. They were arrested without incident, according to the Longmont Police Department.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation by the Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is conducted. This team is a multi-agency team that is designed to investigate officer-involved shootings. The Longmont Police Department is not allowed to participate in the investigation according to police protocol.

If you were a witness to this armed robbery and/or the pursuit and have not spoken with police, please contact Detective Rosten from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at (970)815-6144.
