Two Intermountain Health hospitals — Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver and Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette — received five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, or CMS, in July.

The CMS ratings evaluate safety, readmissions, patient experience and mortality after a heart attack or pneumonia in order to help customers make informed decisions on where to seek care. The scale ranges from one to five stars with the more stars equating to better performance.

CMS awarded 481 hospitals nationwide with its top rating. Saint Joseph Hospital and Good Samaritan Medical Center were two among 17 other Colorado hospitals to receive five-stars.

“We are incredibly proud of this honor and grateful for all the Good Samaritan caregivers we share this recognition with. It’s because of their hard work, dedication and continued focus on our mission that we achieved 5-stars,” said Dawn Anuszkiewicz, president of Good Samaritan. “Our teams show up every day and bring their best selves, supporting each other in the service of our patients.”

This is the third year in a row that Saint Joseph Hospital earned a five-star designation.

“I am so proud that Saint Joseph Hospital has earned the CMS five-star designation, the highest rating for quality and patient experience,” said Jamie Smith, Saint Joseph Hospital president. “Consistency is the true mark of excellence. I want to congratulate all our caregivers on their award-winning performance year after year!”
