The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an animal abuse case that happened off Coal Creek Canyon Drive between June 13-15.

The sheriff’s office was called on June 23 when a person discovered the body of a young German Shepard male dog at the side of a private road off Coal Creek Canyon Drive.

A game camera near the location showed a van that appeared to be rented from Home Depot. The van had damage on the passenger side by the rear tire. Officers believe the van may have been driven by the suspect.

The report does not indicate what injuries the dog suffered, however, officers launched an animal cruelty investigation “due to the condition of the animal’s body, which has sustained multiple injuries, and the manner in which it was disposed,” the news release from the sheriff’s office stated.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control unit is investigating and would like to hear from anyone who may have information on this case. Please send information you may have on the vehicle, suspect, or dog, to: [email protected].

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office associated case number is #23-03388.
