Trick-or-treat! Here’s a roundup of fun, free family Halloween events coming up in Broomfield.

Halloween is fast approaching, and local events are taking the traditional trick-or-treat experience to the next level, with games, face painting, crafts, live entertainment and other fun activities.

The events — which are hosted by church groups, businesses, schools and other organizations — bring people of all ages together to enjoy some spooky community spirit.

So grab your treat bags and costumes … and have a frighteningly fun time at these upcoming Broomfield events!

Bug-A-Boo Trick-or-Treating

  • Where: Butterfly Pavilion, 6252 W 104th Ave.
  • When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays for the rest of the month - Oct. 22/23 and Oct. 29/30.
  • Activities: Trick-or-treating among butterflies and tiny creatures; Free with admission.
  • Event description from the Butterfly Pavilion: “What better way to spend time with the little ones this Halloween season than with a fun Trick-or-Treating experience among butterflies and other tiny creatures in a warm, indoor environment? Bug-A-Boo at Butterfly Pavilion has become an annual tradition, especially for families with toddlers who are seeking a fun and hassle-free way to enjoy the holiday.  This is welcome to kids of all ages and offers parents an ideal opportunity to combine trick-or-treating with an educational experience!”

Trick-or-Treat at Broomfield Plaza

  • Where: Broomfield Plaza, 5015 W 120th Ave.
  • When: 12-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22
  • Activities: Carriage rides, face painting, balloon twisting, caricature artists, crafts, pumpkin decorating station, stilt walkers, carnival games, food trucks, goblin train rides, portrait stations, live entertainment and a trick-or-treat bag giveaway (while supplies last).
  • Event description from Broomfield Plaza: “Bring all your little ghosts and goblins out to Broomfield Plaza for trick-or-treating and lots of other fun and FREE family activities.”

Halloween Boo Bash

  • Where: Food Court at Flatiron Crossing, 1 W Flatiron Crossing Drive
  • When: 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22
  • Activities: Trick-or-treating at businesses in the mall, treasure hunt, balloon twisting, crafts, giveaways, Halloween dance performance by Denver Dance Authority and a Halloween Show by The Jackman Brothers.
  • Event description from Flatiron Crossing: “If you are able, please bring a food donation for Community Food Share or donate HERE! Trick-or-Treat through our center and look for friendly ghost balloons indicating participating retailers!”

Holy Rollers Trunk-or-Treat

  • Where: Nativity Of Our Lord Catholic Church, 900 W. Midway Blvd.
  • When: 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28
  • Activities: Trunk-or-Treating, classic car show, Broomfield Police Department cruiser, North Metro Fire truck.
  • Event description from Knights of Columbus Council: “Come join us for an early evening of fun for Broomfield kids. Cruise in with your car from 5-7 pm, pop your trunk, and we'll supply the treats for the kids.”

Trunk-or-Treat at Kohl Elementary

  • Where: Kohl Elementary School, 1000 W 10th Ave.
  • When: 5:15-7:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28
  • Activities: Trunk-or-treating, yard games.
  • Event description from Kohl Elementary: “Our return of Trunk or Treat last year was such a hit!  We are excited to bring back this event for a second year in a row. Families are welcome to arrive when they are able and do not have to stay for the duration of the event.  (Staggered time entrances are encouraged to help flow and capacity). We are planning to have trunk or treating (with one way flow of pedestrians) and fun yard games in the field.  Costumes are encouraged.  The event will be outdoors, so we will be checking the weather and planning accordingly!”

Halloween at the Depot

  • Where: Broomfield Depot Museum, 2201 W 10th Ave.
  • When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 
  • Activities: Games, crafts, scary stories and the annual Doggie Costume Party.
  • Event description from Creative Broomfield: “Come to the Broomfield Depot Museum and listen to scary stories, enjoy fun crafts, and play spooky games. Plus, this year we have our first annual Doggie Costume Party. Furry friends are invited to show off their costumes and socialize at the first annual Shep’s Doggie Halloween Party and Costume Contest. Awards will be given for the scariest, funniest, and cutest Halloween costume. Prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m.  Please note that Zang’s Spur Park is not fenced-in, so bring leashes.”

Brunner Farmhouse Annual Broomfield Halloween

  • Where: Brunner Farmhouse & Gardens, 640 Main Street
  • When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29
  • Activities: Trick-or-treating row with booths from local businesses, monster rock hunting (for rocks made by Camie Rigirozzi, a local artist, and her family), Hunkta Bunkta performance, monster shuffle dance lessons.
  • Event description from Brunner Farmhouse: “Admission to the event is free, but please bring a food donation for Broomfield FISH as BCAH supports the impactful work of this local food pantry. Family-friendly event; fun for all ages!”

Trunk-or-Treat at Broomfield United Methodist Church

  • Where: Broomfield United Methodist Church, 545 W 10th Ave.
  • When: 4-7p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30
  • Activities: Trunks, s’mores, crafts, games.
  • Event description from the Broomfield United Methodist Church: “Join us for trunks, s'mores, crafts, games, hot dogs and chips. Please feel free to wear your Halloween costume and bring a bag for treats! No registration needed. Open to all. Free for everyone! Please park in the south and east lots, or on the street. Bring your friends, invite your neighbors and let's enjoy a night of fun together! Want to help? Donations, volunteers and trunks are needed! Sign up.”
