Cemex’s Lyons Cement Plant has announced a $5,000 donation to the Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund (LEAF) in remembrance of the 2013 Boulder County Flood. LEAF provides food, rental assistance and mental health and recovery support for residents in the Town of Lyons.

“The 2013 Boulder County flood was destructive to many homes and businesses in Lyons,” said Lory Barton, LEAF executive director, in a press release. “Ten years after the catastrophic flood, we’re still working to not only restore our community, but to make it even stronger and more resilient. We are thankful for our volunteers and community partners like Cemex who make it possible for us to have the greatest impact for those in need.”

After the flood, Cemex temporarily relocated its Lyons office building and shut down plant operations for several months. In the years following, the Cemex Lyons Cement Plant supported various flood recovery and resilience efforts throughout the community.

“Cemex has been a member of Lyons’ resilient community for more than 20 years,” said Michael Clausen, Cemex USA Community Relations Manager. “In the aftermath of the 2013 flood, our team, while also experiencing effects from the flood, took part in immediate volunteer efforts to help restore the community. Over the last five years, we’ve been a consistent supporter of LEAF, donating a significant amount of time and money so the organization can continue serving as a relief hub for the community.”

Cemex is proud to continue its longstanding relationship with LEAF by participating in several upcoming LEAF programs, including serving as a major sponsor for its 9th Annual Rave to the Grave fundraiser on October 21; a Thanksgiving food drive on November 22; and LEAF’s Super Duper Food Pantry on December 13.
