During last night's city council meeting, the City of Longmont received their 26th Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the 2017 operating budget.

According to city council communication, "this award reflects the commitment of the City Council and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting."

Budget Manager Teresa Molloy and Senior Budget Analyst Melody Pallaoro also received the GFOA Certificate of Recognition for Budget Preparation award for their work on the operating budget.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program was established in 1984 to help local and state governments produce high-quality budget documents that meet guidelines created by National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting.

Before an award is received, the jurisdiction needs to issue a budget document that meets twenty-seven nationally recognized criteria. These guidelines include, but are not limited to, providing an overview of significant budgetary items and trends, and including and describing all funds that are subject to appropriation.

Jim Golden, Director of Finance, stated that Longmont was one of 961 cities in the United States and 35 in Colorado that has been given this award.
