The City of Longmont is proud to announce a series of commemorative events to mark the 10-year anniversary of the devastating 2013 flood that profoundly impacted our community. These events will pay tribute to the resilience of our residents, the spirit of unity and the ongoing efforts to rebuild and strengthen our city.

The September 2013 flood was a defining moment in Longmont's history, destroying nearly 2,000 homes and resulting in more than $150 million in damage. As the city and its residents began to pick up the pieces and recover, the moment brought our community together in the face of adversity and showcased the unwavering determination of our residents and first responders.

To honor this significant milestone and remember those affected, the City of Longmont has organized a series of events throughout the month of September:  

Longmont Museum 2013 Flood Photo Exhibit Opening Event

6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14
Free, no registration needed

To mark the 10-year anniversary of the flood, the Museum is presenting an exhibition of photographs taken by community members of the 2013 flood, its aftermath, and recovery. On Thursday, Sept. 14, join us at 6 pm as we unveil the photo exhibit and chat about the flood with Longmont Museum Director & Curator of History Erik Mason. Learn more online or by calling 303-651-8374.

Motus Playback Improv Theatre’s “Stories of The Flood” at The Longmont Museum

Free, registration strongly recommended

Immediately following the Flood photo exhibit opening, join us in the Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium for a special evening dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the 2013 flood. Motus Playback Improv Theater will be our guides as we navigate the tragedy, resilience and occasionally even humor that accompanied the flood through movement, music and storytelling. Come and share a short reflection about your experience of the flood, and then watch professional playback actors enact your story on the spot. Reserve your free ticket online or by calling 303-651-8374.

Flood Commemoration Trolley Tour

10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon Saturday, Sept. 16
Free, registration required

Join us for this special guided trolley tour throughout the city. Tours will begin and end at the Longmont Museum and will take place at 10 am, 11am and noon.

Through engaging narratives, this tour will showcase how our city and community have become safer, more resilient and united in the face of adversity, shedding light on the positive transformations that emerged from this devastating event.

This will be an outdoor event, please make sure you bring water and sun protection! Registration required: Space is limited, reserve your free ticket online.
