Back in the “dark ages,” two local musicians got together for nothing more than the love of music, recalled Adam Perry, former drummer of Gasoline Lollipops. This August, Perry and Clay Rose of Gasoline Lollipops will reunite for a concert at Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids and Solids in Longmont.

Perry attended Naropa University where he met Rose in a music class. Their friendship grew and in 2015 Perry became the drummer for Gasoline Lollipops. While his time as a drummer was short — ending his time with the band in 2018 — Perry helped Rose get noticed, Perry said.

“Like a lot of visionary talents, he (Rose) is really great at writing, performing, but not really promoting,” Perry said.

Perry saw it as an opportunity to do more than drum. He helped the band land a hit song on the radio which also found its way to the Billboard charts. The band’s success secured them tours locally and around the world.

Although Perry stopped drumming for the band, he and Rose still perform as a duo whenever they can.

Perry recently moved to Longmont and is excited to have the opportunity to visit an old haunt the duo played at least monthly when Gasoline Lollipops was young.

What makes the concert special is the variety of music the duo can play together and the energy and passion the two share for the music, Perry said.

“Our friendship has been going on for 15 years now and we’ve played so many different venues together, all over the world, and so many songs together that we have this huge catalog that we can draw from too,” Perry said, adding that the audience never knows what the duo will play next.

Rose and Perry will play on August 19 at Oskar Blues at 1555 Hover St. from 6-9 p.m. The concert is expected to be outside.
