What:

When have you ever been able to walk among hundreds of spiders with no barrier?  Or witnessed baby tarantulas up close?  Just in time for the spooky season, Butterfly Pavilion transforms the zoo into a captivating spider wonderland with the captivating limited-time exhibition, "Spiders Around the World," October 1 – 31, 2023.

Tarantula Takeover: Discover more than 20 different tarantula species from across the globe such as the Columbian Pumpkin Patch and Sapphire Ornamental tarantulas.

Spider Zone: Encounter hundreds of stunning Orb Weavers spinning intricate webs in an enormous 80-foot enclosure that now fills one-third of our Wings of the Tropics butterfly conservatory, eight times larger than in 2022. Walk among these remarkable spiders and their webs, for a thrilling and barrier-free experience.

Itsy-Bitsy Spiderling Nursery: Visitors have the exciting opportunity to meet baby tarantulas! New on display, four different tarantula species’ spiderlings will delight all ages.

Why:

Butterfly Pavilion has been on the forefront of tarantula conservation since 2010, addressing habitat loss and poaching threats, while being instrumental in national tarantula breeding programs. Spiders, misunderstood but vital, control pests like mosquitoes, protecting our spaces. Their silk sparks innovations like bullet-proof gear and parachutes.
