Longmont Sister Cities presented its chaperones and student ambassadors for the upcoming trips to Longmont’s three Sister Cities, La Cuidad Guzman, Mexico, Chino, Japan, and the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming.

Longmont will send six to seven student ambassadors to each city over the summer. The students will spend two weeks learning about the culture of their chosen city. Students from the Sister Cities will also visit Longmont and will be provided the opportunity to explore Longmont and the Front Range.

Each group also has adult chaperones, including Shaquita Yarbourgh, who also serves as a member of the Longmont City Council. These chaperones will help the student ambassadors bridge the gaps between cultures.

The ambassadors and chaperones introduced themselves to the Longmont City Council on Tuesday night. They thanked the council for supporting the program and giving them the opportunity to travel and learn from other cultures.

“I would like to thank you for your continued support for our program,” said Courtney Michelle, president of Longmont Sister Cities.

Over the summer, the visiting cities's students will introduce themselves to the Longmont City Council in a short presentation. Longmont's ambassadors will also be given an opportunity to share what they learned with council members.
