Longmont Sister Cities Association is calling students within the boundaries of the St. Vrain Valley School District to sign up for its annual exchange program. Last year’s ambassadors had so much fun they created a video to entice more participation.

Greta Stauch visited Cuidad Guzman, Mexico last summer. She said the experience was a unique experience that more students should try.

Her trip to Mexico was the first time she had traveled without her parents. For Stauch, it began with some anxiety as she had to find her way through the airport and travel internationally without her parents’ guidance. However, she said the chaperones quickly became her support system and her fears disappeared.

While in Mexico, she learned more about the culture and ate a lot of food she had never tried before, she said.

“It was fun the whole time. Everything was new and fresh and it feels good to be learning and seeing new things,” she said.

Greta’s experience was so positive she wanted to encourage other students from Longmont to try it. She partnered with two other former ambassadors to create a short video on their experiences with Longmont’s other Sister Cities — Chino, Japan and the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming.

The video includes photos from each experience and the ambassadors’ favorite memories from their trips.

Longmont Sister Cities is currently accepting applications for student ambassadors for the summer of 2024. The deadline for applications has been extended to Nov. 15.
