“Runoff season” safety information

Late spring and early summer is often referred to as Colorado’s “runoff season,” during which snow melt in the mountains fill rivers and creeks heading downstream to the plains. Ralph Price Reservoir at Button Rock Preserve is expected to reach full storage capacity this season and begin spillway discharge into the North St. Vrain Creek. As in every runoff season, many area ditches — including the Oligarchy and Rough & Ready ditches — will also be running at or near full capacity to fill Union Reservoir and Pleasant Valley Reservoir, with both reservoirs expecting to be full by June. For your own safety, residents should be cautious when near ditches and the St. Vrain Creek, as currents can be swift, the water is cold, can contain floating debris, and flows can change dramatically without notice. To learn more about stormwater and drainage, visit the Longmont website or call 303-651-8416.

Waterwise Yard Seminars

There’s still time to sign up for one (or 10!) Waterwise Yard Seminars, hosted by Resource Central. Get your Colorado gardening questions answered and learn how to transform your lawn into a colorful water-saving landscape at the Resource Central website or call 303-999-3820 ext. 222.
