Motorcyclist sustains a broken leg while riding Rollins Pass Road

On Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023 at approximately 1:50 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motorcyclist who crashed and broke their leg.

The experienced rider was on a rugged road in National Forest. Timberline Fire Protection District along with Gilpin Ambulance, Alpine Rescue Team and Grand County Search and Rescue were dispatched. Due to the subject’s location, Flight for Life was dispatched to take rescue units into the field and transport the injured person. Rescue units used UTV’s and ATV’s on accessible areas to arrive at the patient as quickly as possible.

The injured person was transported to a Denver area hospital by helicopter with non-life-threatening injuries. The rescue took approximately three hours.

Agencies assisting with the rescue included: Alpine Rescue Team, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Flight for Life, Gilpin Ambulance, Grand County Search and Rescue, and Timberline Fire Protection District.
