Dogs Enjoy Afternoon Reading (DEAR) is probably the cutest program at the library. This free program is designed for new readers and kids who want to practice their reading with a non-judgmental, furry audience a.k.a. a trained therapy dog.
Each child reads at their own pace to one or more of our friendly dogs. Parents, guardians and siblings are welcome to read to or help newer readers.
No registration is necessary, but please check-in with the staff member at the event to get on the list to read, sometimes there is a little wait. We will have a selection of books on hand to read or you can bring your own.
DEAR will be held from 2 to 3 pm on second Sunday of each month at the library meeting rooms. Parent must be present for kids nine years or younger. The library is located at 409 Fourth Ave. in Longmont.
About the therapy teams
Each dog is accompanied by a handler to form a therapy team. The handlers are with the dogs at all times to ensure a safe and calm environment for everyone. All of our teams are tested, registered and insured through a nationally recognized program.
This program is funded by the Friends of the Longmont Library, a non-profit organization created and maintained to actively raise funds for all kinds of library programs, services and materials.
