NEWS RELEASE
VETERANS MUSEUM BROOMFIELD
*************************
For nearly two decades—1978 to 1996—an anonymous figure terrorized much of America. He mailed or hand delivered a series of increasingly sophisticated bombs that killed three Americans and injured nearly two dozen more. Along the way, he sowed fear and panic, and even threatened to blow up airliners in flight.
Because many of his victims were associated with universities in Chicago and Berkeley, he was nicknamed the “Unabomber.” After years of tireless work by the FBI and the U.S. Postal Service, and a tip by his brother David, Ted Kaczynski was finally identified as the culprit and arrested at his tiny cabin in Montana. Since 1998, Kaczynski’s home has been the “Supermax” prison in Florence, Colorado.
Local veteran Doug Nunes worked as a GS-14 Postal Inspector Supervisor after his Army service and was assigned to the Unabomber case, on which he worked for 14 years. His Coffee & Conversation presentation will feature evidence never before seen by the public.
The talk will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023. The Veterans Museum Broomfield is located at 12 Garden Center, on Midway Boulevard about a quarter-mile east of Wadsworth, and is open Tuesday and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call the museum at (303) 460-6801.
