March 10, 1934 - May 2, 2024

Naval Service:  17 November 1951/ 9 March 1955 Honorable Discharge. Commercial Painter by trade. Born in Longmont CO, Dad lived his last months in Loveland CO. Survived by his 6 children, sister Shirley Robles (Leroy), brother Jim Montour And, mother of dads six children Mary (Montoya/Montour) Henson. Preceded in death by his father Frederick Montour, mother Jennie Montour, brother Victor Montour and spouse Rose Mary (Flageolle) Montour.

Dad’s Military Medals include:   Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp) Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal (One Star), National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal. Ship: USS Hailey DD 556.  Dad fibbed to get into the service early and we have had a hell of a time ever since with his date of birth.

Our Dad painted every type of building that needed painted, Great Western Sugar Mill Silo in Longmont, huge commercial office buildings, new housing tracks, private homes, and later in life refinished antique furniture.  He loved working with his hands. He had long fingers. Dad loved gardening. If he could make a piece of ground look nice with gardening, he did it.  Our Dad was very sharp minded individual. He read the newspaper front to back every single day along with Atlas Maps.  He read everything and was interested in Geography. Dad could make a mean pot of green chili so he could sit down watching the Broncos with a bowl of green chili in his lap and a tortilla. Dad was a utilitarian. He saved every little thing just incase it could be a solution for a fix in his world.  He lived on his terms.

Dad’s spirit was a compassionate one. He helped raise cousins and grandchildren and brought them into our house to live, he fed stray cats and birds.   On the other hand, dad was a strict disciplinarian raising us kids. In the end, Dad is proud of his children, always mentioned it in conversations and went to heaven knowing his children were a fine depiction of him.

In Dad’s last months, I brought him to Loveland December 2023 to care for him, allow dad to feel safe, wait on him hand and foot and, he had a man around, my husband, to converse with him about man stuff.   This time was the most honorable thing a person can ever do. I am very grateful I had my dad.
